From the previous blog, we talked about the definition and history of digital marketing. In today’s topic, we will discuss the different types of digital marketing. 

As I mentioned in the first blog post, I don’t have any idea what digital marketing means before. I didn’t know that I already encountered it years before I started working online. And maybe we have the same experience too. So let’s start knowing them one by one.

Different Types of Digital Marketing

Content Marketing

The first type that we will discuss is content marketing. According to Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is

A strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

Content marketing is the process of creating valuable, relevant content and distributing it to a specific target audience. It aims to deliver a profitable action from the target market.

It is like telling a story to your target audience and driving them to buy your brand. 

For instance, you read a blog about the benefits of going to the fitness gym. After reading it, you want to enroll in their monthly membership program. 

The blog you read is part of content marketing. And wanting you to join the fitness program is the result of effective content marketing.

Content marketing is not also limited to blog writing, it has many forms like infographics, videos, and podcasts. We will discuss it in a separate blog post. 

Search Engine Optimization or commonly known as SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of creating “free, organic” traffic. It aims to maximize the number of visits to a specific website in the search engines. 

In short, this is a process that will help you to be on top of search results when someone searches for a word related to your niche. 

For example, you want to search for the best laptop for freelancing.

The result will show you the websites which have the list of the best laptop for freelancing. And this is how SEO works with your website. It helps you to be in the top search results.

Search Engine Marketing or SEM 

Search Engine Marketing or SEM. It has almost the same process with SEO.

Search Engine Marketing is the process that will help you increase your visibility in search engines like SEO. However, this type uses paid methods.

It means that you have to pay for your spot to be seen in the top searches. 

Email Marketing

The next type and most common type of digital marketing is email marketing.Email Marketing is the process of promoting any products and services using emails. 

I still remember that email marketing was one of my first jobs. At first, I did not know the importance of this until it showed me the results. 

Social Media Marketing

Most of the people today have a social media account. And this is the reason why it is good to use for business too.

Social Media Marketing is the process of attracting more traffic and attention using social media platforms. 

Through social media, you can easily reach your customers and build a relationship with them.

In addition to that, the more value you share with your audience the more attraction you will get.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is commission-based marketing that generates income when someone clicks the link that will proceed to other websites and makes a purchase.

In short, it is the process where a person looks for business partners that will bring them traffic to their website. 

For instance, I will use affiliate marketing to help me drive traffic to my website.

Pay-per-Click

Pay-per-click is the oldest digital marketing type. It is the process where companies put ads on someone’s website and pay every time someone clicks their ads.

This process works well in the blogging industry. 

Instant Messaging Marketing

The latest trend in digital marketing is instant messaging. It is now popular in businesses to use instant messaging to communicate with their customers. 

It is faster and more convenient than using emails or SMS.

Most businesses use this to address a certain concern of their customers, follow up and promote their products and services.

These are the top different types of digital marketing, and each type has its strength. The only thing we need to do is to find the right type to use for our business and use them efficiently and effectively.
